Poetry Review Writing Workshop

Hi friends—I had a beloved poet in the community reach out and ask if I could lead a poetry review writing workshop, and since this is a topic very close to my heart, I was grateful for the prompting (and interest). I’ve written a number of reviews myself, and was the reviews editor at EcoTheo Review for two years, where I edited over 100 reviews—so I’ve seen a lot of different writing models and worked with a variety of different presses, from micro chapbook presses to Graywolf.

After asking around on Bluesky, I’ve decided to offer two 1-hour workshops on 1/27 and 1/28. The content will be slightly different in terms of looking at sample reviews and participants, in case you want to join for both. I’ll have handouts, captions, and please note that I will record both sessions.

I am so looking forward to having this conversation about review writing! This is community work, heartwork, and really in the end it is about love. Who feels confident writing a review is also very much about social power, so (for me) review writing is about learning to ungatekeep our criticism, thoughts, and feelings.
